Seminar in Dingle, Ireland

After an unforgettable welcome off the plane by Paddy, our Irish host, we went on to have a fun packed and non stop weekend of kempo training and Guinness.

It’s always nice to meet new kenshi; this is certainly something I find different from other martial arts. There is an obvious family spirit without the macho rubbish found in other arts which helps foster a sense of cooperation essential for training in Shorinji kempo.

After a grading in the morning and a large kids class before lunch, we then went onto some more in depth techniques in the afternoon lead by sensei David Dunn. The dojo is lovely, not too hot and they even had mats! It helped that the sun was streaming in through the tall windows.

After the seminar our host treated us to a tour of the local beauty spots, pubs and tea rooms. Breathtaking beauty was found in Ireland as well as good friends, food and booze.

I’m looking forward to our next visit.
